Pros
It is a busy jurisdiction to work in so you will accumulate reps in fairly short order. The benefits and time off are good. It still has a defined benefit pension, though it has been decreased for new applicants. Most of the coworkers are good people. The work can be funny and entertaining. You get to kind of cruise around as you please, it is nice not being in a cubicle.
Cons
The city leadership has gone woke. The management of the Department tells those leaders what they want to hear. We have stopped engaging in most proactive police work. We are a poor jurisdiction so raises are few and far between. We broke our homicide record this year. We have gone from 1050 sworn to about 750 give or take. The work can be violent, I have had about 20 coworkers shot in my tenure. Dealing with people when they are having a bad day is your everyday.
