job security, good benefits (including tuition waiver), flexible and laid back management, general willingness to work together among staff members.
Cons
within my department we suffer from hapless management and inferior tools to complete our jobs. there is a pervading lack of motivation among many staff, aided by the perception that no jobs are in jeopardy at Tulane. i understand that these qualities are common at many universities, but it seems worse here than at previous higher education positions I have held. yet as my title suggests, many of the units and departments operate much differently and more efficiently than ours. management more concerned with process than anything (not results).
