Pros

- good pay for on campus job - LOVE the professional staff here, they are so kind and always want to help you succeed - as long as you’re doing your work and making your rounds, you can still squeeze in some time to do some studying!

Cons

sometimes the 5-6 hour shifts would be a lot on the weekends but otherwise no cons

Pros

If you get the right professor, things go smoothly and most will try to work around your school schedule fairly. It's not terribly hard work either, and usually is manageable on top of school requirements. If you're lucky, your department will be a rare one that treats students and other faculty/staff well - ask multiple grad students for an honest review of the department.

Cons

Your department may ask you to do much more on top of your regular teaching duties, may ask for more hours than they are supposed to, and many departments will be dismissive or downright abusive of grad students/students in general. It's generally a toxic and elitist environment. If your academic department is one of the more toxic ones, you won't be able to make a formal complaint, because the departments are small enough for them to guess who lodged a complaint with HR and then you will be open to persecution. Lastly, much of the school will only grudgingly accommodate disabled students and faculty and you will have to insist on having your basic accommodations met over and over (even after you have been formally granted them).
