Pros

Exceptional work enviroment, great health benefits and flexible work schedule. Also, management is very understanding when it comes to requesting time off.

Cons

Non-Competitive salaries, which is the result why the personnel turn over rate is so high. The state engineer tech techs should be as qualified as the contracting engineer techs.

Pros

The benefits and pay are hard to match in the public sector. It's not a sexy place to work, but it happens to be the most progressive government agency I've every been associated with. The people I worked with made it great for me.

Cons

You have to deal with the many policies, procedures, and politics that come along with government work.

Pros

TxDOT is a very established company, the state takes care of their employees, and I enjoyed being split between the office and the field. The environment was good and my supervisor was very cool and helpful.

Cons

During the summer, the time I was interning, the hours can be long and though it was not too bad you do spend a lot of time commuting, most of our areas job sites were about an hour and a half away and driving back and forth was a big portion of the day.
