      Pros

      Gained experience in construction methods and materials testing as well as construction management. Was never asked to do anything i wasnt comfortable with. Got to see a lot of stuff being built. You dont have to worry about being taken advantage of or being given reponsibilities that an intern shouldnt have, which can definitely happen at design companies. also you get overtime

      You have to spend some time in the summer heat

      Summer Engineering Tech Intern

      This was a great first internship experience. My office put me to work on a construction project, and I was able to get my hands dirty in the field. I got certified in multiple concrete tests which looks great on your resume. After about two weeks, I felt like I was a regular employee. Everybody I worked with was extremely friendly and eager to help if I had questions. The job is a very structured 8-5 (the hours can be flexible) and the only time I ever worked more than the standard 40 hour work week was if I asked to. I never had to take my work home with me. TL;DR: Great first internship. The responsibilities given are not too difficult, and the job is very structured.

      Cons

      This is a state agency, so of course the pay isn't great. Other offices in my district under-utilized their interns; it is really hit or miss. But, you get out of it what you put in.
