      Pros

      There are plenty of opportunities with TxDOT. They will be turning over a large amount of staff within the next four years due to retirements. In Austin, Tx., there will be a consolidation of campuses to one campus. It will be located off of East Stassney Lane. This will cause people to retire as well.

      Cons

      Once you're slotted within a pay group, you are stuck for life. Unless you get another degree or already have a second degree, the pay-scale is set. Merits are hard to get and are not keeping up with inflation.

      Serving the public so the focus is on safety, quality, and costs rather than strict budget and deadlines. Great work-life balance. Good benefits.

      Cons

      Higher management can be very critical. Heavy favoritism for the select few.
