Pros

A lot of low hanging fruit

Cons

Forget the age of the equipment (50+ years old), the lack of any written procedures for anything (including safety protocols, and this is a foundry) the bigger concern is the outdated and highly misogynistic way of thinking of the people that have been there way too long (about half have been there 10+ years, it is common to find employees with 26 years of experience, 40 years, the minority are all the new people that keep on leaving.) This company is based in Birmingham Alabama, and the deep 'good old boy' culture has permeated every cell of this organization. There are zero women in the managerial ranks and one or two token women sprinkled here and there just to protect themselves. Same goes for minorities. Here if you are white and male, you get promoted, even in cases when you know nothing about the new job. Politics, not talent and good ideas rules the day here. If you choose to join expect: not recognizing your ideas, work and contributions, stealing these to make oneself look better, political gameplaying to belittle and put down people that are a threats because they actually know what they are doing- in some cases full on histrionics and screaming which nobody addresses. In general this is the classic toxic environment, but carries a lot of passive aggressiveness, lack of transparency, fairness and a certain degree of lack of ethics. Run from this place do not work here. This place paralyzes everyone to the point that nothing happens, nothing gets done of any value or note.

Pros

great money. That's about it.

Cons

where do I start... first and foremost the plant manager and most higher ups don't give a damn about you. If you are working on the weekend because of a emergency that happened you are stuck there ( because if they say you have to come in , you better do so or they will penalize you on their point system it doesnt matter if you have worked 7 days straight )while they (the upper supervisors) sit at home getting to have a life. Some of the supervisors care about you but their words usually fall on deaf ears if they try to stand up for you. The environment is incredibly toxic. Because management doesn't care about you, eventually you will not care as much about your work or the quality of your work. This causes a endless cascade of management pushing for everyone to work harder but most already don't care because they are being pushed too much, are not given any credit or are constantly having to work all the time. The company had recently gave a big pay bump to the maintenance department because they were losing mechanics like crazy. why you ask? I don't know if you consistently keep them from having any real time off they will get tired and quit. These people have families! children! they aren't gonna sit at work and constantly sacrifice time with their families simply because the job says to! There is absolutely no work/life balance here. If you are a single young person looking to make a whole lot of money, this place is for you. Don't expect any real time for yourself. If you get injured, the safety group tries to find a way to make it your fault even if you did everything right. I knew of one person who had injured his foot bad enough to need a boot and they made him come in to do stupid piddly work just to maintain their no lost time injurys. The guy was utterly miserable!
