Pros

There are some nice, talented people to work with in technology in UBS Wealth Management Americas. Financial Advisers and their staffs are very professional, interesting and successful.

Cons

Horrible communication in technology. Treated employees horribly from a corporate / management communication standpoint. Everything in technology is underfunded and behind the curve for competing with other companies in this category. As with many large companies, management changes periodically (6 months, 1 year, 18 months, no longer than 2 years) so long term strategy and maintaining consistent resources is close to impossible. Contracted large technology firms is strategic at the management level but disastrous at the implementation level, especially technology development resources. Plans have been to move technology out of the NYC area to other locations for cost savings. Salaries are undercut at every opportunity.

Pros

Really smart people who are passionate about solving clients' problems Select teams have a great vibe and are really fun to work with Ability to learn a lot about global financial services

Cons

Extremely political, resulting in too many poor managers Antiquated technology for most of firm. Some teams don't know who their top 10 clients are Except for Financial Advisors, your bonus compensation is 100% correlated to how well politically positioned your group head is, regardless of your performance output. When I had a good group head, I got paid extremely well, even in the bad Wall Street years. When I had a bad group head, my bonus wasn't even 10% of a good year even though my output was at the highest level Slow to move. Too indecisive about the type of firm they are and what on their platform truly benefits clients HR function is basically non existent Difficult to move around and get a well-rounded financial services experience - leads to few to no executives who are positioned to run such a large organization Way too much turnover, and not of the people who need to go
