      Underrated science and engineering education with an endless amount of research opportunities.

      Cons

      Hard to get classes the first two years which may result in a setback in terms of graduating in 4 years.

      UCR is special, mostly in good ways

      Pros

      Most of the people who work at UCR are interesting, friendly, and committed. A lot depends on who your boss is, but most are very flexible and accommodating, and generally people who do a good job get recognized (though perhaps not monetarily). Leadership has generally been pretty sensible, at least in the post-Chancellor-Cordova era. Great benefits, too.

      Cons

      You probably won't make as much at UCR as at a private company, particularly if you're hired immediately after graduating. Less-qualified people who are brought in from the outside will make more than people who have been around a long time; sometimes the only way to get a raise is to leave.
