Pros

Working at the UCR Botany & Plant Sciences department can be fulfilling for certain types of people, particularly those that enjoy spending plenty of time outdoors, and do not mind getting wet or dirty often. The other workers are generally pleasant and hours are flexible, given that most employees are students or former students.

Cons

Work can be physically taxing, requiring tasks such as digging, or heavy lifting (100+lbs) for hours on end. There are plenty of prolonged periods of standing, crouching, and hiking to access research sites or harvest plants/weeds. There is little opportunity for advancement, and management does not encourage lower level workers to provide input, advice, or contribute ideas to improving methodology for conducting research.

Pros

The Professors I TAed for were by and large great people.

Cons

In terms of a place to live, Inland Southern California leaves A LOT to be desired. Quality of undergrads you worked with was all over the map-some very bright kids, and some who really didn't seem prepared for college.
