Pros

Friendly employees. Pay was pretty good. Merging with the University should be a really good thing in the future.

Cons

Ex Military Management talk at you as if you are in the military. Literally getting in your face and talking to you like Sargent Carter on the Gomer Pile Show. It seemed like it was just for fun, or so it seemed and then writing you up about it and in some cases, getting people fired. Do they get a bonus for this? I did not sign up for the military. Threats of insubordination that don't even fit the definition. People just disappear and are never seen again, even though it is said that there is a protocol and there are meetings and warning, write ups, etc... TERMINATED. No warnings or write ups. I moved across the country to be terminated for reasons (one of them completely made up and no matter how I tried, they would not look at the proof against it, or take it off my record), that would normally get a write up or warning. They put a negative mark on my career that will make getting a job nearly impossible. I thought that the University would not have handled my situation this way, but when I asked for help, they did not step in. When I called for my COBRA papers, they said my "Whole Group" had a computer glitch and would be late. 'Whole group'? How many people are "LET GO" for a 'whole group' of cobra papers to go out, what, weekly? I was approved for Unemployment, so I obviously didn't do anything serious or illegal. WHAT THE? They use the "At Will" State Law as an excuse to be horrible to people that just want to go to work and do their jobs. We had this law where I am from, but never saw this interpretation of the law. Employees are aware of this law and are in constant fear of being fired. Very, very sad. BULLIES! What a nightmare of an experience!

Pros

Excellent benefit package, including pension plan; very talented clinical staff and knowledgeable operations staff. World-class performance in particular specialties.

Cons

Aggressive project time frames, particularly in the Epic project. Poor work-life balance, long hours, unpaid overtime (for salaried workers), and heavy emphasis on and political power in the revenue cycle organization. They take care of patients' health and in collecting the bill as fast as possible--paying attention to employees' well-being is, sadly, not really a priority. Lack of understanding in UCH of the community provider needs emergent from the merger with Poudre Valley and Memorial Health Systems. Insular mindset on the part of University of Colorado Hospital leadership as pertains to the merger. Insufficient representation of Poudre Valley and Memorial Management in the new University of Colorado Health organization (a product of the merger of UCH and the others above). Mass uncertainty about the future among the rank-in-file. High turnover in the IT organization as a result of all of the above.
