Pros

- Big name school - Great medical school for collaborations - Good core facilities - Distinguished faculty

Cons

As with any PhD, your experience totally depends on your advisor... So make sure you fit well with them as well as the lab.

Pros

Perfect for a student - lots of time to study. There isn't much to do except swipe key cards for entry. Pay is nice considering the amount of work to do.

Cons

There are terrible hours - I worked from 8 PM to 5 AM, and if there aren't enough people you have to pull double shifts.

Pros

Great access to wonderful facilities and equipment. Environment where collaborations do actually flourish. Some undergrads are quite bright and hard working.

Cons

There is an occasional bureaucratic nightmare to deal with. Lots of forms to fill out and incredible hurdles to getting paid as a graduate student. I still don't understand why it takes five employees, several weeks, and a multitude of forms to set up my employment and get direct deposit going.
