First of all, thank you for your commitment of 10+ years at UL. We appreciate your dedication and your input as I'm sure you've seen a lot of change over the past decade. As you're aware, on top of salaries, UL invests heavily in the overall financial well-being of our employees, including annual bonus, generous paid time-off, strong and affordable health care benefits and a sizeable 401k match (5% match + extra 4% contribution after one year). Our Total Rewards team analyzes the market regularly to ensure we remain competitive for job seekers and long-term employees alike. If you're looking for more insight, feel free to meet with a member of your local HR team who may have more data to share about your location. Thanks again for your contributions.

Pros

-Great environment -A lot of extremely nice people that have been working at the company for a long time -Good opportunity for personal growth, however do not stay more than 2 years. They will have you doing responsibilities that you are able to get paid for way more money at another company. Good for padding resume and personal knowledge building.

Cons

-Pay is not competitive at all. Expect to make 20-30% less than you would at other organizations. There's a reason a lot of people jokingly say UL stands for "Underpayed Labor" - Bad Management to Employee ratio. You will end up in departments with as many managers as analysts which can make it difficult to work -Company wide culture around saving money. Our department cancels projects so that our end year numbers look favorable to the Core Team. -Non-technical leadership means prioritize do not align with findings from analysts. Many IT decisions are made that do not match the priorities that should be focused on to secure the organization. They match up with what ends up looking nice or show favorable "graphs" or "reports" -Senior IT Analyst job responsibilities are expected from Associate level Analysts.

We're glad to hear you've been able to take advantage of a more flexible work arrangement. The culture you describe is contrary to what we hear from most of our employees. It is precisely those with active curiosity who continue to ask the tough questions that push this organization forward. We encourage you to stay inquisitive as you help UL continue to evolve. If something is not clear, reach out to the friendly colleagues you mentioned. We also recommend checking out what training opportunities are available through UL University. From soft skills to tech skills, there is a wealth of possibilities for your professional development.
