Pros

Awesome city. Great schools. Good place to use as a stepping stone and learn alot. Very Innovated institution. Fast paced.

Cons

Significantly under paid compared to national averages. Management and administrators significantly over paid along with incentives of bonuses. While employee's are not.

Pros

really good benefits; some good co-workers

Cons

only interested in the billable hours. Virtually no training especially for staff that really need it. I was actually told to lie about my credentials to a client. Then I was reprimanded for refusing to do something that was clearly a violation of my profession's (social work) code of ethics. The president once stated that he wants to make UPMC as big and influential as U.S. Steel was back in the day.

Pros

Typically, the people you meet here are pretty driven and looking to succeed at what they do. The work is interesting, and the majority of the people I've met here do seem like they are looking to put our members/patients first. Benefits are very good, especially the time off policy for salaried positions Encouraged to advance within the company, and there is frequently room for growth. Leadership does seem interested in ideas for improvement within the company, and within a team, there is typically very strong encouragement and support Very flexible hours

Cons

UPMC has a difficult time telling people no, which results in work that is virtually impossible to do with the tools provided as many systems are old and outdated and teams are pushed to do extra manual work. Pay is minimal, and promotions come with a cap of 10% raise (or the minimum of the new salary range). It is difficult to really grow income remaining within the company. Leadership is frequently not transparent and has occasionally been vindictive and petty (this is not the norm, but it does happen frequently enough to mention) Different departments are extremely siloed and frequently in conflict with different departmental goals and directives.
