Pros

-Large company with thousands of departments and opportunities for lateral moves or career advancement in the long-term -Opportunities to network with many people your age and also make friends

Cons

-They are the largest employer in PA, so your individual contributions are minimized -Very little actual training takes place; it's hard to feel a connection to the work when nothing is explained and you're preparing operational reports with no set due date or hundreds of journal entries -The culture in finance is somewhat toxic; virtually no core finance work is even performed and they will bring you in and expect you to work 14-16 hour days doing accounting or operations work with no dinner break

Pros

They are a growing successful company so there are always plenty of job options. Pay is descent, I've seen other local Health Insurance companies offer lower to higher salaries so it varies, I feel UPMC is right about in the middle and with better job security.

Cons

Like any big company advancement alot of times depends on your management more then the work you do. Yearly pay increases should be higher to help with the constant cost of living going up including the cost of healthcare.

Pros

Dedicated staff, educated older staff willing to teach, part of larger community that was doing good research driving improvements

Cons

Low pay vs national average driven by monopoly and size of organization, no recognition for the real hard work but accolades for those who did things that kissed up to management or consumers, constantly understaffed, often unsafe assignments
