Growing pains of a new company with undefined structure. Many fires to put out as expected in a start up, especially in this new field.

Pros

The work is both challenging and fascinating. Every day feels like you are working to tackle problems at the forefront of this burgeoning industry. The culture is social with lots of new hires and opportunities to meet and interact with coworkers. Unlimited PTO is great, but it's a work hard play hard opportunity, you will probably need to work weekends to justify taking more vacation than normal

Cons

Startups are usually fast-paced and hectic and UPSIDE Foods is not an exception. At any given time there are 100 things labeled as priority #1 so you need to be discerning and make good decisions about what to focus on because it is not possible to accomplish everything that you are asked to do

Many social events, cutting-edge work (not to mention being a fun problem to solve), unlimited PTO

Cons

Work-life balance suffers for RAs. Some individuals have half a dozen HR complaints and yet still hold leadership/management positions, get promoted, get new hires, etc. Meetings can get tense with certain personalities. A lot of clique-ness (e.g. some scientists hate other scientists, complain about them, etc) and favoritism (people with 1 year of experience will get huge projects, others with 5 years will not).
