Pros

Retirement benefits are a primary factor if one plans to complete 20 years of active duty service. The Montgomery GI Bill provides tens of thousands towards each person after just 2-4 years of service. Tricare Prime (medical) is by far the best for the active duty person and their dependents.

Cons

Depending on the mission, work can be really good, or terribly difficult. Management is core to the overall work experience. Expect to work really crummy hours, many of them deployed away from family.

Pros

The Air Force has incredible training opportunities and a vast benefits package which remains untapped by most people. Education benefits alone are ~$50K not to mention 100% tuition paid while your on active duty. There are many opportunities to change career fields or just change jobs within a career field. Travel opportunities across the US and abroad.

Cons

Family seperation. Differenct career fields have different amounts of time away from family so there's no ones size fits all answer. Sometimes the amount of work is light and sometimes it's unbearable. You have to take the good with the bad. Stress can be high sometimes but you rarely get bored. Again, depends on the career field.

Pros

* Rewarding job if you are patriotic and/or enjoy working in a very team-oriented environment. * Senior Airmen are generally the right-hand men of the NCO's and you will learn a lot about leadership if you are working under the right people. * With the new GI Bill, allows former active duty members the ability to attend college virtually debt-free.

Cons

* Like any military job, the pay does not necessarily reflect what you put into the job. * Your personal life will always take a backseat to the needs of the military and this is hard for some people to accept. * A lot of military jobs do not offer any transferable skills in the outside world.
