Pros

Excellent benefits. Pay is very comparable, if not better than comparable civilian jobs. If you like to travel, this is the career for you. GI Bill will pay for school. Healthcare is excellent and covers 100% of ailments for you and family. Extra pay for overseas and high cost assignment areas. Extra pay during deployments, and tax free status if in war zones. This just scratches the surface... but the best personal benefit I receive is intangible; it's the opportunity to serve my country and gain that sense of personal pride and accomplishment that is priceless, without a doubt.

Cons

Frequent deployments will take you away from family for months at a time. Current deployment times are 6 to 12 months (minimum). The Air Force is currently going through a reduction in force which is eliminating 50% of personnel in some career fields, regardless of time in service.

Pros

- Great training opportunities - Gain wide breadth of experience in many different areas - Job is always changing. Never gets boring. - Your advancement is up to you. Do what is asked of you and you will go far. - Exciting opportunities to serve the USA overseas.

Cons

- Huge organization where sometimes you feel like a number. - Mission needs often trump personal or family needs - Cannot seem to get HR figured out. Has to force people out about every 2 to 3 years to meet requirements.

Pros

Excellent leadership, intelligent NCOs (forecasters have to be smart), huge responsibility (weather support of DOD installations) placed on airmen, a chance to mix creativity with science/ officers, enlisted, and civillians working side by side, training translates to most high paying civilian weather jobs, - WAY more training and responsibilities than Marine and Navy forecasters. Army doesn't have the asvab scores to create a weather field so USAF takes care of them too.

Cons

Pay is very low compared to civilian forecasters, weather can be affected by many so variables that excellent forecasts can be ruined,
