Pros

Job security - can't really get fired, even if you do a terrible job Health care - not the greatest but it's free Some exciting opportunities out there

Cons

Bureaucratic regulations take up most of your time and patience Finding advancement opportunities is a challenging and complex exercise "groupthink" mentality makes individual opinions less meaningful

Pros

Some of the best reasons are the respect and recognition that comes with serving with the military. A lot of people value that very highly and it can help out further down the road. Also if you have the time to take advantage of the free schooling, that is clearly a big benefit.

Cons

Depending on your MOS the chances for promotion are can be slim to none. In many cases people who have ambition, drive, or intelligence can find better jobs outside the military, leaving some less than steller people in charge.
