Pros

lean skills, travel, leadership, unique opportunities. In the Army you will do things that are not possible anywhere else in the world. You will lead people and make plans and decisions that will affect your subordinates. Working with foreign governments and people and shaping the minds of future soldiers makes the job fulfilling. I would recommend the Army for anyone who is not sure about what they want to do with their lives and needs purpose, direction, and motivation.

Cons

Doesn't pay that much. Especially for the hours put in. You are always on call and are always that the mercy of your commander.

Pros

team oriented - family atmosphere - excellent benefits - secure job - not tied to the economy. The Army is certainly a stable job with a lot of comraderie. There is intense pride in the job that we do. We have a family atmosphere and work within a rank structure that deters careerism (stepping on others to get to the top).

Cons

compensation - standard of living - time with family. Compensation for the job we do is inadequate and the standard of living is poor. Army continues to improve, but can't keep up with the national rates. Rank structures are advantages until you work for incompetent people who by virtue of rank and not performance or potential are in charge.

Pros

The mission of the US Army is meaningful. If you want to make a real difference in society, this is the place. The benefits and stability offered in the Army are very difficult to match in almost any other job. The army has a very broad demand for different skill sets. There are opportunities for specialization and skill developments in almost any field imaginable.

Cons

Promotion is generally awarded based on time in service. For those who want to excel quickly through hard work, there will be some frustration at watching your less-qualified peers advance at a near equal pace. Be prepared to sacrifice some personal freedom; especially at the lower ranks.
