Pros

Depending on the branch, you may learn a lot of federal accounting.

Cons

Poor management. CPA, master's, or any additional degrees or certifications aren't considered for promotions neither appreciated. Lack of common sense and consistency in processes. A lot of arbitrary decisions. Promotions based on favoritism. Unrealistic expectations.

Pros

Flex work schedule is good, means you get every other Friday off. Public transit stipend. Nice new office building directly at the Suitland metro stop. Lots of interesting, professional, and nice people if you make the effort to meet them. Good cafeteria. Work hours were stable (no forced overtime)

Cons

I was able to finish most of my work by lunchtime, and there was no opportunity to take on additional work or learn about functions of other departments. I asked repeatedly for more things to do, and supervisor told me directly that she was unwilling to give me more work or let me learn from a different department. Pay was appropriate for the amount of work and skill needed, which means it was very low. The office building had a fence and a huge land moat around it to separate it form Suitland, which is not a pleasant or safe area (like much of southeast DC). So there was a long metro ride every morning and evening.

Pros

Good pay great benefits flexible schedule new building with very nice gym

Cons

The work comes in cycles and when there is no work (which is often) you either surf the internet for weeks or are given meaningless busy work that managers forget they even assigned to you. Management is often book smart, but not good leaders. There was a lot of favoritism in my department with supervisors and employees not showing up for days, but claiming it on their timesheets, "working from home" while checking in at the mall on facebook and a general culture of laziness and negativity. Projects and team assignments were only given to a select few while the rest of the department just sat around with literally no work for months at a time. The facilities are nice as they are new, but is literally in the ghetto with a terrible commute. There is a metro very close, but there are robberies and assaults at the station often. Do not work here.
