Pros

The work is interesting, the pay is great, the benefits are great, and job security is as good as it gets. There is strong support for continuing education.

Cons

It's not always easy to see how impactful on society my job is, though that comes with the territory for many government jobs.

Pros

The mission of conducting a complete count of every individual is extremely important work that is taken very serious by all employees.

Cons

Expectations of job performance are high, but tools and resources are not in place when needed to complete assignments. Lots and lots of parts (personnel) involved just to complete simple personnel onboarding activities, and often times not given accurate information, which leads to delays at the expense of the new hire. Some in management positions are petty and are given the authority, but lack the tools to be successful managers.

Pros

It is a Federal Government job for all it's worth.

Cons

I cannot really use it to get other Federal Positions and upward mobility is nearly impossible due to the nepotism and preferential treatment within the facility and utter disregard for whatever skills may make our work more profitable for them higher up. Work is scarce right now and, even though I have worked there since May 2006, I was still scheduled only 2 days this month because I had to take 2 weeks off for a family reunion (vacation which I really did not take in 12 years). They also have their own ambiguous criteria for training for surveys and there is no law against it--discrimination or retaliation is nearly impossible to prove.
