Working for the government is really secure.

Cons

Difficult to supervise in the government. No tools to motivate. No ability to fire bad employees.

Pros

Very flexible, with the ability to schedule your own hours and days to work. Paychecks were direct deposited every week, and included mileage reimbursement.

Cons

There was a lot of driving involved, and you had to use your own car. Although mileage was paid, it didn't cover any of the wear and tear, or possible mechanical difficulties you might encounter.

Pros

Good pay, flexible hours, you ae out and about for the majority of your work day going to various homes to conduct interviews, so you get some one on one customer service-ish experience too.

Cons

Its a seasonal job, that hires once every ten years, so if you're looking for a long term, steady job/career, this won't be the job for you... And you get zero benefits. They also tell you that you can not work over 25 hours a week (to prevent overpaying you). I don't know about the other years, but it seemed like during the 2010 census in my area, they were itching to fire you. Once girl in my training class got fired because she asked a question about the job that apparently our supervisor did not like, another guy got fired because he was "too quiet" during the training class, and another woman got fired simply because she annoyed our supervisor. They even purposely trained us to do things one way, then a week into being out in the field, our supervisor tells us that what she taught us was wrong, and that we would be tested by our supervisor on the field to see if we conduct our interviews properly, using the new methods they told us to use.
