Great place for encompassing experience

Pros

Numerous paths for gaining and expanding experience that is more than translatable into the private sector for senior level positions. Job security is unparalleled.

Cons

Progression can be obstructed, by limited slots at the next grade level. The same position class performed in the private sector often makes considerably more than the government position with far less experiential breadth.

Pros

The pay for someone without a degree is very competitive. Benefits are great. Work and life balance is great. The trade and mission gives you a sense of accomplishment.

Cons

Top management is very toxic and refuses to do the right thing. Favoritism and nepotism is rampant. They have no clue about running a sustainable business, instead mask it with unnecessary overtime.
