      Strong culture, same old journalism

      Pros

      - Great culture. They care about diversity - Enjoyed tremendous work-life balance, though this will vary by publication. - Loved my fellow employees. Everyone was smart and cared about their work. This was true even of most upper management, with a few exceptions. - Pay was adequate. Could be way worse.

      Cons

      - Lack of vision from upper management led to mass layoffs. - Medical insurance is good but expensive. - The company's size does not mean job security. I wouldn't expect a tenure any longer than other jobs in this industry.

      coworkers and the city is ok

      Cons

      The management and editors are disorganized, not good at their jobs, and the culture isn't great. Your stories will sit and not get published, it's all over the place which made me realize why there was such a revolving door. I was warned about this coming in by other staff. And the low pay makes it worse. The editor's wife is also an editor which makes it weird. They pick and choose who gets to report on what despite you having a "beat". A lot of favoritism and complaints about editors among the newsroom.

      The culture is fabulous, workmen life balance is a real thing, there is always something new to learn.
