Not a Place to Serve All Students

Pros

Teachers and administrators are extremely hardworking. Lots of passion, and people genuinely believe that they're doing the right thing. Desire to serve is real and genuine.

Cons

Brutally long hours (not unusual to be in the building before 7 am, stay until 6 or 6:30 pm, and then go home and grade/plan for another hour or two. Need to accept that 1 - 1.5 days out of the weekend is not your own. Important to realize that the work you're doing isn't helping all students; the students who need good teachers the most are generally pushed out in the late elementary/early middle school years.

I have met some great staff members, amazing kids and families that will always have a special place in my heart.

Cons

Lack of accountability from leadership - they tend to place the blame on teachers Prejudice against teachers of color - many teachers of color do not have leadership roles and are often painted as challenging Impossible to give feedback on systems, routines, curriculum, etc. Lack of freedom in teaching style or instruction

None the organization is horrible. It's a business they do not really care about students. Leadership is in it for the profit. They use low income, disadvantaged students as a way to make a profit while claiming they care about social justice. Read about them and their partner organizations before you get anywhere near this organization.

Cons

Cult like obey or be ostracized. STAY AWAY FROM THESE SICK PEOPLE! You will lose your sanity.
