Great place to learn about marketing fundamentals

Pros

Unilever is father/mother of marketing so the opportunity to work in the marketing function is hugely attractive. As a brand manager you "own" the brand and coordinate the rest of the company to grow/protect it.

Cons

It's a massive global company, so connections to overseas colleagues was much less than I was expecting. Also the functions are in silo's so you are not expected to look beyond your function.

Unilever - a great place to work

Pros

Great atmosphere. Creativity encouraged. Flexible work hours - 1/2 day Fridays, week off at christmas, onsite gym and onsite cafeteria

Cons

Unilever management was not very good at relaying information regarding the future of the company when it was possibly being sold. This led to constant rumors and an unpleasant work environment.

Pros

The work environment is very professional yet relaxed. Employees are intelligent and motivated to get work done well. The company has brands that span both Home Personal Care and Foods. Home Personal Care moved from Connecticut to New Jersey in 2008, so employees now have a better opportunity to move between the two areas to get a broader range of experience. It's a short commute from New York City or Eastern New Jersey suburbs, so it is very accessible for employees who desire to live in those areas.

Cons

The marketing department is saturated, so there is little upward mobility.
