Pros

Fortune 500 Company. Retirement premier-30 year.

Cons

Disgruntled atmosphere. Horrible time-off benefits. Air quality hazard-constant dust control. No sick days. Work schedule offsets life. Damned if you do/don’t type production demands w regulations State & Fed. Nepotism common. Training short-lived. Less mechanical than you’d first believe and more like 80% assembly line work/inspection outside in extreme heat bending stooping breathing in constant dust. Jobs are bid structured and a cluster mess half the time w getting knocked off schedules. Ruins marriages, time with children. Diversity suppose to be a strength but in reality is very challenging and sensitive. In Hollywood movies an ex con, city person, country person, lesbian, black white brown and veteran are comedic collaborations. But in reality, there is always nervousness, sensitivity, far political cultural differences in all directions. Many times unequal work, unequal training, constant meshing of subgroups. CYOB becomes a mantra. There’s no synchronization of schedules to allow for employee camaraderie or extracurricular activities. The job bid structure inherently pits workers at each other as well as taking time off pits workers and management against eachother.

Pros

Iconic company with rich history, outstanding people committed to each other, to the railroad, and our nation's economy

Cons

The mature nature of the company and employee length of service can lead to siloed departments and entrenched bureaucracy which can make it difficult to be nimble, seize opportunities, and serve others.
