Pros

Starting wages are very good.

Cons

You are at their disposable and they will work you till they are done with you. After being there almost 5 years they decided to cut 200 jobs and the lowest seniority guys got sent home. After being forloughed for 5 months I finally got to go back only to be sent home again. The company only cares to make record setting profits.

Pros

benefits are good for family IF you are the lucky few management doesn't target to discipline on a regular basis, and on the rare chance they actually do pay you per the national agreement then the pays ok. Trade crafts out of the railroad are way better pay and benefits.

Cons

Company blatantly steals your money citing bogus information/repeated excuses and tells you to follow Railway labor act from the early 1920's to fight for your hard earned money despite proving them wrong on your federal reporting documents, little known fact is timekeeping purposely does this because claims take years (5 - 7 to maybe get paid) and they know most guys just give up in the long legal process, also timekeepers get promoted by the amount of withdrawn claims they produce and ways they come up with to deny them. Intimidation and coercion is second nature from managers from every aspect of job, it's your train and liability is completely yours (at least when things go wrong) but you have no voice, no power to really do much and they know it. you are their scapegoat. period. Reach out to the Fed's (FRA) I'm sure the management will "leave you alone", they just start safety testing you constantly and suddenly after you do cause they have the "courage to care" . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . about the bottom line at least. It's truly sad to see all the TE&Y workers they've "promised" good paying jobs then furloughed right away never to call them back, after most of them with families left other career's. Most employees walk around with their heads down and don't tell anyone they work for Union Pacific because of their embarrassment. Moral is at lowest I've ever seen in the multiple railroads over the years that I've worked for. Sad.
