Pros

Work hours are good (day shifts) except Jan-March(lots of mandatory OT), but we all knew that going into the job. They pay time and a half for this OT work....great time to make your own bonus, because if you're not in the top 35% you will not get either a raise or a bonus.....welcome to the "great unwashed" that make up the lower 65%

Cons

Where to begin? 1. Employees are viewed and treated as fungible commodities, not valued, respected, and easily replaced... regardless of Optumrx's printed hype to the contrary. 2. Healthcare insurance benefits are 3rd rate. Three yrs ago I heard the on-site HR dude (OP,KS) actually brag that UHG is a Fortune 50 company that provides benefits, equal to a fortune 250 company, out of 500 companies reviewed...????? 3. After 6 years of college and earning a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree, pharmacists are reviled and resented by management from Optumrx, from CEO (Dirk) down to the facility level. They are irked at what they have to pay us.......The UHG insurance MBA's had to strive for 15-20yrs to make what we do right out of school. Well, I say this to them....A) go back to school, I'll pay for your first semester, B) I will guarantee pharmacists are held in much higher trust and esteem by PATIENTS ( NOT CUSTOMERS) than the MBA insurance bean counters

Pros

Work at home, flexible hours

Cons

Even the top performers do not get more than a 3% annual raise and if you don't make the cut, well sorry but you get nothing. There is no cost of living raises. You must be a top performer based on their metric system to get an annual bonus. Bonuses have decreased every year and I have been there for 11 years. They took away completely little incentive awards we could potentially get based on performance. The workload is heavy, pace is constant. Always changing policies and systems without prior notice. Micromanaged to death. Upper management tells us they want to hear from us yet when we tell them what we want it falls on deaf ears. They say they value their employees but is does not show in any tangible way. Our health insurance options are terrible and we work for a health insurance company. There is no opportunity for advancement. Your direct supervisor is overwhelmed and does not have time to talk you about next steps for advancing your career. Morale here is pretty low right now.

Pros

•Fair Salary •Remote roles •Volunteer match program •Individual Health Insurance is really affordable •On-site health clinic •Online Learning

Cons

Mass layoffs are far too frequent-while many other companies CEO’s are forgoing their million dollar salaries to minimize RIF, it’s just not the case with UHC. Most recently an entire segment of roles was eliminated, only to have the same roles be posted for applicants with several days later. Using layoffs to meet their bottom line is just not a culture that values people.
