Pros

Ability to work at home is a great asset. This depends on the position you hold, but many will allow at least partial work at home. Also, there are sites all over the country, so you may have an opportunity to relocate. The company's diversity policy is fantastic, and all groups are "safe." Overall, the staff are well educated and hard workers. They also strive to help each other improve and succeed. The company is always trying to find ways to be innovative, and it encourages staff to think outside of the box. Being part of a Fortune 25 company looks good on a resume too.

Cons

Salary is lower than at most companies of similar size.

Pros

Working for United looks great on your resume, similar to a Microsoft or other sweatshop. You will get great experience in crisis management, death march projects, working with massive capital cuts, mediocre co-workers, micromanagement and conflict resolution.

Cons

Speaking only of the technology organization(s), there is a severe myopia regarding what technology will deliver versus what business needs. Most projects are so late, pegged against unrealistic dates, tied to budgets that get cut all the time, and finally deliver product so thin in its functionality due to all the above reasons as to be worthless. Technology is supposed to be a service to business...not business being and excuse to build technology.

Pros

If you like to be told what to do, how to do it, and why you are doing it..... If you are early in your career and looking to gain experience.

Cons

Super-sized organization with super-sized egos and very little focus on people. Throughout the acquision process our organization was treated like an unwelcome second cousin and this approach translates directly to the way they treat thier customers and how the organization is perceived by clients.
