Pros

- field environment is great - managers are helpful with direction and questions - as a marketing consultant you are hands on with enrollment and renewals

Cons

- Salary: Unum gives once a year bonuses/salaries - Pay is fairly low as a service member in the field and they don't take into account the cost of living. (ex. same marketing consultant position/role in Florida is being paid the same in California. Pretty unfair. - There is no room for growth in the Marketing role in the field, unless you want to be in Sales eventually.

Pros

Unum is a bit of an old fashioned company, and that comes with some positive things. They treat their employees very well. They value loyalty, and their benefits reflect it, particularly their retirement benefits. If you're interested in a company where you can work for 10 - 20 years or more this is the company for you.

Cons

There's a flip side. As a direct result of their values, Unum has a dated IT staff, and a dated IT mindset. They struggle to organize in a way that can position them to keep up with the changing face of technology. I'll add, if you're looking for salary over total compensation you will find that Unum is not very competitive.

Horrible Leadership

Pros

None since mid-2000's, but it used to be a great place to work. Once the former leadership left/retired, it went downhill quickly.

Cons

Mandatory bell curves. Incompetent people in leadership roles. Foreign outsourcing is rampant. Racial discrimination is rampant against males who are not of a foreign origin, Routine layoffs of knowledgeable people.
