Work culture is more important than you think

Pros

Good pay, free snacks, aesthetically pleasing work environment

Always overwhelmingly busy, management has the tendency to ignore subordinates, not handling the pandemic well is all I can say due to restrictions, management not standing up to investors and requesting work at home be mandatory during a pandemic. High turnover rate due to employees not being treated like actual people and more like robots who don’t need to eat, breathe, & have emotions when dealing with very serious and intense situations the job does bring with it in regards to customers and their real life problems. Management overall puts on a very performative display of seeming to care about their employees & using key words and phrases to give the illusion of actually caring. When confronted with real life issues, doctors notes, and other things management including HR makes it very difficult to get needs met and will let go of long term employees before making changes for employees they deem necessary. More or less if they can’t get sued within reason, they won’t think twice about denying any requests. When confronting supervisors about incorrect info they have provided they rarely hold themselves accountable & often times will bicker with their subordinates about how they should have known better regardless. Upgrade in all has great pay, good benefits, but terrible work culture, terrible employee support, & dishonest management.

As with any scaling company, growing pains are an inevitable part of the process.Our leadership team is comprised of first-time managers and those who have seasoned experience. Manager development is an important part of our organization and we have partnered with an external leadership consultant providing ongoing learning and coaching in addition to creating internal training to support these efforts. We realize we have more work to do in this area and we will continue to support the ongoing development of our leaders. Look elsewhere unless really passionate about finance

Pros

- Free office snacks - Nice office aesthetic - Pay is decent

Cons

- Bad management - Poor work/life balance - Low employment engagement - 60-day probation before being able to use sick time during a PANDEMIC - Work in office with little option to WFM unless you have a disability So much I could say... to begin with, the company does not have any values they adhere to. If you're a mission-driven person, this is not the place for you. They claim to want to "help customers lower their debt to help them reach their financial goals and live a better life" but you don't actually feel any of this and end up just processing day-to-day admin tasks. They offer basic credit score information on their website but that's it. There are very few company engagement activities and All Hands meetings end up disengaging you rather than exciting you about the company. Due to this, employees are disengaged and turnover is high. Not everyone who is a manager in Loan Servicing is competent to lead teams. They claim to have a good work/life balance but this is not the case. Due to the company not wanting to appropriately staff, certain teams end up working mandatory OT on the weekends. Unless you have a background in finance, live in SF or legitimately enjoy this sector–Upgrade will only be another job to pay the bills.

As with any scaling company, growing pains are an inevitable part of the process. Sometimes business can ebb and flow and it seems we could improve our communication in this area. We appreciate the feedback to better understand how we can communicate better during these transitional periods.

Pros

Couldn’t be happier. I love working for Upgrade. They value their employees and treat them accordingly. Generous compensation. Great health insurance. Lots of perks. Beautiful products that are a pleasure to work on. True culture of transparency and open communication. Other companies talk about it, but Upgrade actually follows through.

Cons

No 401k match — it’s coming! But, salaries are so generous, this cancels itself out. There are no cons to working here.
