Pros

The opportunity to work in the sports industry is the leading reason. The contacts that one makes outside of the company in the field of sports are wide and diverse. The atmosphere is professional in the product management divisions. The employees are all well-qualified and generally solid workers.

Cons

Everyone will say the pay, but that comes with the industry and the location (San Diego). Upper Deck needs better support from the executive level on funding for projects, but this stems directly from the business philosophy of the owner. Also, communication between departments is poor. Overall, a "CYA" attitude prevails, which hurts the overall mission of the company. The overall age of the workforce is young, which hurts the learning experience for younger workers seeking professional experience. There is not a great deal of veteran leadership with formal training in business. There is also no standard operating procedure documented for new workers. For this reason, many times working knowledge leaves the company as turnover occurs.
