The top leadership of the organization is strong and maintain a clear and consistent message to the faculty and staff. SUNY Upstate offers specialty care not available elsewhere in Central New York. SUNY Upstate is the Burn Center, Trauma Center, Stroke Center, and tertiary referral center for the region. Children's health services are available in many subspecialties, both for inpatient and outpatient care. The University Hospital also has specialty centers for Oncology, Endocrinology and Hyperbaric Medicine. A large number of specialties are available 24 hours/day. Some resident staff have a tendency to lack clarity when it comes to focus on customer service. An overabundance of bureaucracy plagues the system at times. These are minor issues overall.
