Pros

The beauty of Logan. The people you work with, the family atmosphere of the team. Knowing that what you do everyday is positively contributing to others, helping them—the students, the community, the residents of Utah and the intermountain west—achieve their potential. Also the benefits don't hurt any.

Cons

Upper management's tendency to sometimes overlook the contributions of all their employees, not compensating everyone the level they deserve. The abuse of student workers by not paying them what they deserve, or giving them appropriate opportunities for advancement, even if it would benefit the university. The sometimes nepotistic or incestual nature of the university's hiring process. The inability of the university to fire truly incompetent people. The gradual erosion of health benefits. The fact that including more universities such as UVU and now Dixie is going to dilute the funding each university can receive from the state legislature for programs and projects.

Pros

Work schedule can be flexible depending on your advisor and deadlines. I have heard PhD students graduate with few publications. So that means their schedule is probably pretty loose. Cost of living is cheap so that's always a plus.

Cons

can be hectic sometimes and stressfull. My advisor is still working for his tenure so we keep pushing out papers. Last year (2012) I had submitted 6-10 papers to different conferences. Also, winter sometimes can be very bad.
