Pros

Pay and benefits are competitive

Cons

Toxic, catty work environment. The managers are bullies who will retaliate if you so much as try to assert a boundary. Chronically understaffed by design: management knows there aren't enough support staff, but also isn't hiring. Deeply unsupportive and toxic

Thank you for sharing this feedback. We take concerns about leadership behavior, respect, and psychological safety seriously, and we recognize that feeling unable to assert boundaries can be deeply discouraging. At VCA, we continue to invest in leadership development and ongoing training to help create thoughtful, compassionate leadership across our hospitals. Just as importantly, we work to build strong care teams by prioritizing a healthy support‑staff‑to‑doctor ratio and by growing, developing, and fully using the skills of our technicians so everyone feels valued and supported in their role. Our goal is always to create workplaces where people feel comfortable speaking up, confident in the care they provide, and supported by the team around them. Feedback like this matters to us as we continue strengthening the Associate experience and caring for those who care for pets.

Pros

VCA Countryside Animal Hospital of Hamburg is an incredibly supportive and team‑oriented workplace. The doctors and support staff are compassionate, skilled, and genuinely committed to patient care. As a Hospital Manager, I’ve had the opportunity to lead a motivated team, strengthen hospital operations, and contribute to a positive culture. What truly stands out is how hard management works to make the hospital an enjoyable place to be. We regularly incorporate fun activities, theme days, celebrations, and small morale‑boosters to help the team de‑stress and stay connected. Whether it's staff appreciation treats, team lunches, holiday competitions, or light‑hearted moments built into busy days, there’s constant effort to keep the workplace uplifting and enjoyable. Those small touches go a long way in a fast‑paced veterinary environment. VCA also offers strong corporate support, great training programs, and continuing education opportunities, which make professional growth accessible and encouraged.

Cons

Like any fast‑paced veterinary hospital, the workload can be demanding at times, but the team works well together and supports one another when things get busy.
