      Pros

      They genuinely hope employees have fun at work and are friends. They like to take on small jobs that large firms usually avoid, which is good if you like that sort of thing.

      Cons

      The flip side of the emphasis on everyone being friends is a shocking lack of diversity, especially at the corporate HQ which is a white male dominated culture. It’s dozen offices are basically independent franchises with little understanding of each other’s capabilities and no incentives to collaborate. In fact the business metrics penalize offices for helping other offices. Offices protect their turf. The main office acts like a colonial power from centuries past, deliberately keeping the territorial offices small and bringing the best projects and their profits home to Boston. Probably a great place to work if you’re in Boston, but uninspiring and unchallenging the farther away one gets from the seat of the kingdom.
