Poor Executive Leadership

Pros

Great camaraderie among staff (sort of how abused children bond together)

Cons

The executive leadership rules through fear and intimidation. This is from the very top down, and permeates throughout the rank and file employees. Jim Cole (CEO) is terrified of John Garrett (Board Chair); the VPs are terrified of Jim Cole; the CNO (Darlene) is a liar and a bully, etc. I have never seen a hospital with such turnover. Even at the Manager and Director level, people just "disappear". Some are fired, and some just walk out. Unfortunately those are the ones that actually speak truth to power - the bad leadership stays for decades!

Pros

Location-close to major cities and accessible

Cons

1) They low ball salary offers. Then when you are in already and you do a good job they will add more in your plate even if you are drowning.... No additional salary for additional responsibility- Middle management just keep dumping work on frontline managers and get the recognition for it. 2) If you are salaried expect to work 10-14 hours a day and you won't hear anything from higher management but if you are an hourly employee they will push you out at the end of the day because they do not want to pay overtime. 3) Really bad politics and frontline managers are at the mercy of higher management... Managers burns their mid-night oil as if they don't have a family or life 4) High turn over and the staffs are pushed to the limit to produce the same results with less manpower and help 5) Accountability and performance measures are unrealistic - it's all about making your boss look good 6) Change happen almost every month- no stability and not good for mental health of the employees 7) Very rude higher management and treats the staff as second class citizens 8) You need to add at least additional 45 minutes allowance to get to work because only one bus runs at a time in 4 offsite garages to pick up and drop employees. The bus stops at 9am & starts at 3pm very hard for employees with family emergency.

Pros

It's a new hospital, it has new equipments. I love the location since it's so close to DC and other great places.

Cons

Reading the other negative reviews, I just kept thinking for every single review 'that's exactly what I want to write!'. It's really sad what this hospital is doing to it's employees. All senior experienced nurses have left or are leaving. There is no resource nurse for the new grads. In my unit, we have a 21 year old taking leadership positions w/ no experience. You have to report to a person who will support you if you are on their circle of cool friends (lifers). My manager support unprofessional behaviors in our unit. I feel like I work with children who are there to make friends and plan their next night out to drink shots! (yes, I have to hear that all the time). The hospital seems to have 90% of nurses of age below 25. It becomes so difficult to work with so many unexperienced nurses because we are continuosly training people and as soon as they are trained and have 1 year of experience, they move on to a better hospital.
