Pros

Free annual flu and COVID vaccine available Free parking available for hospital staff

Cons

Pay is not competitive compared to other local hospital systems. Nursing experience outside of the hospital is not accounted for with your pay. New grads will make more than experience nurses though. Little to no appreciation for nursing staff with no voice for the nurses to make changes within hospital but they claim to be a Magnet hospital. Meetings are mandatory whether you are working or not. Not participating is reflected poorly on evaluations. You are expected to check emails every day whether you are working or not. Long psychological test required for employment. Results of this test are retained for 5-8 years, be aware. You will give your all here but at the end of your shift, it never enough and more will be requested of you. If you are bilingual, go somewhere else. You will not be compensated for being bilingual. This hospital system will not even set you up to be certified however the interdisciplinary team will ask you to interpret for consent form and explanation of plan of care to patients. Protect your license! Certain units only allow career advancement for certain nurses regardless of experience, education, or training. Very difficult to use or schedule your vacation time. Summers are always hard everywhere and that’s understandable but still very difficult to schedule. Sometimes only one shift for vacation is approved. Scheduling system (Kronos) is awful to utilize for inputting your schedule, knowing which shifts have been approved, or looking at schedules overall. Mistreatment by physicians toward nursing staff is overlooked.
