      Pros

      Smart people, technology is changing the world, join the right group/find the right manager and it could be the job of your lifetime

      Cons

      head of engineering cares about himself, not about vmware, his employees, or customers. it shows. the sense of mission and purpose has faltered since founders left. more and more well-respected old-timers are voting with their feet. not quite a domino effect yet, but feels like we could be on the verge, and then watch out. middle management quality is and always has been inconsistent. do your homework on potential boss before accepting a job.

      No focus, product management is non-existent

      Pros

      Relaxed work environment, good compensation. Good coworkers, if you find the right team. Exposure to motley crue of technologies.

      Cons

      Mediocre middle management. Lack of focus. The top management has good vision, but it does not reach the bottom layer. The main reason for this is that product management is practically non-existent. There's very little understanding of the importance of true product ownership. Design by committee is everywhere. And politics - no, POLITICS, with all caps - is everywhere.

      some good people to work with. quality people make all the difference. that and it's a great technology to sell.

      Cons

      Lots of cons.... where should I begin. For one they don't allow you to advance at all. Pay is horrible compared to other industries too.
