Slave drivers!

Pros

I learned a TON while at VMware and worked with some of the smartest people I've ever met. There are opportunities to grow your career.

Cons

VMware is a multi-billion $$ company that somehow, somehow can't afford to pay their workers. I busted my butt working for this company, and advanced to management in a few years. I was promised raises and bonuses that never materialized. I ended up leaving for the same position with another firm for a 50% increase in pay. Years later I applied, was told my needed salary was well within the pay range for the role, only to be told that my minimum was "too much". It's disgusting how little they pay their most talented employees and turnover is always a problem. Don't expect to be valued working for VMware, no matter how hard you work!

Pros

his review is not Vmware as a company. I think the company is a good place. It is for the EUC BU and specifically the intelligence organization. I spent 1 year within this time. It was the worst experience from culture. It is all about abusive micromanagement. Middle managers are picked based on how incompetent they are. It is done on purpose to increase office politics and this will allow management maintain their jobs. We joined via an acquisition and at the 1 year visting, almost all of us left. It was a disgrace. Middle managers across the intelligence team are picked to ensure no one stays whenever an acquisition occurs. Everyone from any acquisition are targeted by middle managers until they make them leave. My health suffered. My attitude changed. So stressful. No productivity. Almost none. Middle manager sabotage progress on purpose. They write up lies to the upper management. Upper management never speak to staff memebers. There are inclusion and diversity titles that has nothing to do with reality. Also there are places where you can complain then they retaliate against you despite too many employees staff members complain about the incompetent middle manager. One middle manager within intelligence team is actually a racist and upper knows it. They just want to keep him so that staff will go and complain. Never regret leaving this toxic team under the organization of the intelligence. The VP knows and does it on purpose.

Cons

Toxic Vp in intelligence team and picks incompetent middle managers on purpose

Walking dead...Emperor's New Clothes

Pros

The beautiful campus, fresh fruit, gym, beer bashes, celebrity entertainment, and the turtles.

Cons

Emperor's new clothes: It is an incredibly political place where people are no longer comfortable with speaking up about issues (product, people, strategy...). And there are certain executives who terrorize and belittle their people with no recourse. They missed the boat on public cloud in a big way - hampered their product teams by mandating that they support vCloud Air, at the expense of avoiding Amazon, Microsoft and Google. The public cloud offering is sub-par - does NOTHING to streamline the experience for hybrid cloud, which was supposed to be the POINT. Why would a customer manage workloads one way with private cloud and a completely different way for 'public'. This is what happens when you let a handful of egomaniacs drive product strategy. Walking Dead: The result is a campus full of zombies. There is no life there anymore. It's a sad, sad ending to what used to be a great company. And you can't blame the current state entirely on the Dell/EMC acquisition. We were on life support before that all came about.
