Over the past few years, the Cisco culture has crept into VMware and has altered the vibe from that of an energetic start up to a predictable, contractor abusing, hiring freeze having, slave-to-the-shareholder kind of company. Additionally, VMW doesn't do a great job of cultivating their talent. Instead, they have begun to hire more outside talent, rather than developing and promoting existing folks.
