      Pros

      The technology is great, people are quite smart, the future potential is huge.

      Cons

      The company has already gown so much that if you are a smart guy and you join now, the growth would be quite slow. The promotions would come very rarely and unpredictably. The company is becoming more and more driven by upper management than by engineers, which used to be the case.

      Pros

      Lots and lots of very smart people to work with Cutting-edge technology and developers who are, generally, glad to talk about it Loose corporate culture - no need to be pretentious to be respected!

      Cons

      Can be a politically charged atmosphere Not as glorious as, say, Microsoft. Company by engineers for engineers, for the most part.

      Pros

      VMware is a leader in one of the most promising domains in the enterprise space. It has one of the best brands around.

      Cons

      The engineering managers are very bad at planning. Most products, other than the flagship ones, do not have a plan. With acquisitions happening all the time, there is tremendous pressure on all the teams to prove themselves. This translated in to very bad work life balance for the team members executing. The compensation does not match the efforts put in, and that does not help in any way.
