Pros

VOICE's greatest strength is its caring atmosphere. This is unusual compared to other schools where I have taught. The relationships between colleagues are friendly and productive. There is a shared vision of creating a challenging but also warm environment for our kids. If you have a strong sense of purpose as an educator, it is a great place to teach and learn.

Cons

Some of the challenges related to teaching at VOICE have to do with space and resources -- particularly physical space, which is quite limited. It can be challenging to navigate shared classrooms and busy hallways. Class sizes also vary considerably. Still, there is a good amount of support and a generally positive attitude where people try to make the best of limitations.

Pros

Room for growth, awesome staff

Cons

You're expected to do both high-skill work like substitute teaching, behavioral management for high-behavior students, and classroom management, but also are required to do low-skill tasks like snow shoveling, cafeteria cleaning, and other custodial work.

Pros

- Experience in the classroom - Ability to volunteer for extra hours (more pay) - Strong music program for students - Many teachers in the process of furthering their own education and obtaining advanced degrees

Cons

- High teacher turnover - High Classroom assistant turnover - Lack of sensitivity and understanding regarding issues of diversity and inclusion - Not respectful of classroom assistants - student are not taught to respect them and we were often asked to do things that were not a part of our job description i.e. shoveling snow/ice and cleaning the cafeteria between lunch periods - Classroom assistants are expected to spend the most time with students without proper support
