Pros

This position was highly flexible, at least during the pandemic. It is still remote so not sure how different it'll be in person. As long as you work 40 hours a week, get your output expectations met, and work within a semi-normal range of hours (starting anywhere from around 6am to ending any time around 8pm), you can work whatever hours you want. If you wanted to take a Friday off, you can work 2 extra hours Monday through Thursday to make up for lost time, still work a 40 hour week, and still take a day off. Coworkers are all super chill, again as long as you're getting your work done there's no micro managing and everyone is super responsive when you need help. There have been ample opportunities for raises, including yearly rate increases for all employees. As a Google contractor/vendor, you are able to join the Alphabet Union.

Cons

You are NOT a Google employee. They stress that from day one. You are a Vaco employee who contracts with Google. While Vaco benefits are good, they aren't the insanely great benefits that higher level Google employees get. Your first week or two will be bumpy if remote, as they don't send out your equipment until your first day so your first week isn't spent working. They don't communicate this well, but you WILL be paid for your time.

They don't care about their employees

Pros

I worked as a vendor at Google. My experiences are unique to my position. - Decent starting salary for those early in their career. - Work with Googlers on Google projects. - Access to Google office with free meals/gym etc. - Google looks good on the resume.

Cons

- People who work for Vaco are vendors working at Google. They are not Googlers. Vaco makes this very clear on your first day. - Google uses Vaco to hire workers to staff projects they don't want to hire Googlers for (usually because they are less-skilled positions). - Management does not care about their own employees. To them, employees are simply bodies who perform tasks. Management's loyalty is to Google, because that is who is paying them. Expect them to bend over backwards for Google while doing the bare minimum for their own people. - Certain managers lack experience and people-skills, which is very bad for morale. - Bad benefits. - Very little chance to be hired by Google, and also limited upward mobility within Vaco.

Pros

- Diversity. Great co-workers - Remote. Flexible starting time, flexible breaks

Cons

- I worked in one of their Google temporary projects. Despite assurances during the interview process that this project could lead to further opportunities within the company, none became available. This left me feeling misled. They kept temp workers in the dark until the very last minute. The project abruptly ended, and temporary employees (over 40 individuals) were notified of their termination with minimal notice (3 days). - NO PTO. Only UNPAID time off and 9 paid sick days per year. - no 401k match
