Pros

The culture. The values. The team. Senior management has made it very clear that their doors are always open and they're not above taking a call from the frontline. They genuinely have interest in how things are going on the frontline, and never hesitate to introduce themselves to new employees. Compensation and benefits are generous. To add to the generosity HR often schedules sponsored events for team members. HR is friendly and always willing to help in any way they can. Working here I am always happy to go to work for the day, and I know that should anything happen I will be taken care of. Valley Strong Credit Union cares about employees as much as Members.

Cons

There are some inconsistencies with supervisors as far as direct report support. While some excel in building their team members up and helping them in their career, others do not. I will say that team members do still have the choice to self advocate as far as their career growth, just wish all supervisors were supportive.

Pros

Valley Strong is the most authentic financial institution I have ever worked for. In my experience, the culture of many employers tends to only exist on paper, (or is only mentioned at your first interview or new hire orientation). At VSCU, values and culture are instrumental in serving as the foundation in how the organization functions on a daily basis, and in everything it sets out to achieve. The level of integrity and support is overwhelming. It took me months to get over being shocked at just how much this organization truly cares about my well-being, values my input, and supports a health work life balance. Actions not only speak louder than words, actions reveal priorities, and it is very clear that VSCU recognizes that it's own success is rooted in prioritizing the success of it's employees, members, and the local communities. The executive team goes out of their way to make sure everyone feel appreciated, empowered, and equal. The inclusion of everyone and embracement of diversity is phenomenal. I have seen my fare share of management teams who carry themselves as an aristocracy, always acting completely put out, invalidating, or inaccessible when approached. I have never seen management as down to earth and approachable as Valley Strong's, who genuinely appreciates and considers it's employees input and ideas, and common-sense solutions. Typically it's my way or the highway, but this team is always striving to improve and seek out better practices, regardless of where they come from. Compensation is generous. The credit union's pay and benefits exceed any employer I have worked for in the past. Outside of compensation, the credit union is always looking to recognize and reward talent, and make team members feel appreciated. Whether it's swag giveaways, raffles, or employee appreciation events, it just seems like they don't hold back. Outside of the emphasis on the local community and doing what is right, one of the things that stands out to me is the level of realism and empathy. Ever since I have joined the team, I have never felt scared or ashamed to raise my hand, I feel safe and completely supported in my role, and I feel like I matter, as do the challenges I face on a daily basis. It's no surprise I am surrounded by some of the best colleagues I have ever had the honor of working with, and it's no surprise that we all give our best. This is where talent comes to stay when it is lost or neglected elsewhere, because this environment truly brings the best out in everyone

Cons

The credit union is growing, and for many who have not experienced it, this can feel overwhelming. Management is hyper-aware of this, and constantly asks us to reach out for support when needed. They also keep everyone on the same page as to what the organization is doing, what it hopes to achieve, and provides a clear roadmap to execution. Having been through growing pains at other institutions, I know how bad it can get. VSCU does an incredible job supporting it's team in overcoming challenges together. Not once have I felt left behind, or left in the dark. Despite what challenges I have to overcome, I have never received the message that I am not enough.
