Pros

401K - Vanguard matches a 4% employee contribution after a year, as well as contributing 10% a quarter. It is extremely hard to get fired because HR is so scared of lawsuits. HR will simply instruct your supervisor to provide you more "coaching." This is a pro for job security, but it absolutely encourages mediocrity.

Cons

The pay is awful. The majority of employees work in a C level role (non-exempt) and make in the low to mid 40's. These employees typically have a Series 7 and a Series 63. Go anywhere else and make at least $10,000.00 more. In order to keep costs low, management chooses to enact ridiculous programs like the VADP (Vanguard Accelerated Development Program), where they take a 21 year old college graduate, take them through a 16 month rotating program, and make them a supervisor of a group of employees at the age of 23. Not only does this cause resentment among older employees that are required to "report" to this person, but this newly minted "supervisor" has no idea on the responsibilities of the role of his/her subordinates, and inevitably leads to the subordinates coaching their supervisor on the role, as well as Vanguard's systems. Vanguard's diversity endeavors seem to be a parade against white people. They have specific programs for gay people, African-Americans, people of Asian descent, and women. Vanguard recognizes diversity as only diversity of physical appearance, and not diversity of thought. But senior management has fallen so deeply into the trap of groupthink, that this will not change, and management will continue to promote people who are not white over a more qualified white person. Raises are awful as well. There are certain performance ratings that will be given to you at the end of the year (Distinguished - up to 10% raise, fully successful - up to 8% raise, on track, needs improvement). If you are fully successful, you can expect a 2-3% raise. Distinguished, maybe 5 % if you are lucky. Once you are locked in at a salary, you are pretty much stuck with mediocre raises that don't keep up with cost of living increases, unless you go to another company.

Pros

It's easy to feel good about working for Vanguard, because you always feel like you're doing the right thing for the client. It's a good place to start a career. They have a good training program and you can fairly easily move up or across, and try different things.

Cons

Vanguard is very "clubbish," and has a very strange passive-aggressive culture. They have a pattern of pushing out people who reach a certain age and at a certain level by undermining them at every turn. Perhaps it's their constant focus on the bottom line--once you reach a certain pay level, unless you're solidly in the very small club, you're going to be targeted. This is particularly true with women.

Pros

Clean workplace Good location (Scottsdale) VU university is good for the most part (classes) Food (Galley) is OK for company food Bathrooms are clean (usually).

Cons

-Terribly mismanaged company after the old CEO left. -Diversity of sex, ethnicity take precedence over diligence in hiring decisions in all departments. -Highly attractive girls (not woman) get catered to in most departments by the male supervisors/managers that never had a date in college (empty-less suits as one Flagship client said). -No upward mobility unless you have a second face and drink kool-aid every meal and brainwash yourself. -Strong democratic/liberal political presence in all department management. -Goodluck paying your cost of living and having anything left over. -Maybe you can retire by the time your 90 even with Vanguards own calculations. -Anonymous surveys about employee satisfaction on a monitored PC is crazy.
