Pros

On site benefits Great reputation in investment community Fair benefits Work-life balance is a big plus 401k match and contributions are above norm

Cons

Compensation changes have dramatically reduced employee pay over last few years. Employee 'stars' are identified early and are rushed through the promotional process as long as they behave and agree with their boss. It seems like management has to sell their soul to stay in good graces or they get pushed out. The good managers with experience are being moved out of the way for younger 'yes sir' replacements. HR talks the talk but division leaders push a more sinister agenda - must have good legal department. Diversity is pushed so aggressively from entry level up to middle management (no higher for some reason) that reverse discrimination is demoralizing to the rest of the crew and diverse crew can get away with practically anything. Pushing new ideas or not agreeing with the status quo is a death sentence to anyone's career. Fear for future with inexperienced leaders (that look good and are politically correct) demoralizing experienced crew.

Pros

Diverse workplace with a lot of side events Many on site services such as gym, places to eat, auto and dry cleaning, etc. Benefits such as PTO, affordable health care, dental, vision, etc. Great work / life balance - generally you leave work at work. Opportunity to educate though Vanguard University and virtual learning All things considered a very ethical company because of the structure

Cons

Low base compensation (Vanguard claims it's in line with industry average. Malvern and the Philly suburbs are very expensive, but the wages are in line with country living wages). Raises are less than inflation so your earnings effectively decrease. 2-3% is considered a great raise, and most people get less. Unrealistic expectations and always expected to take on additional side projects and initiatives (multiple at one time) causing employees to be overworked. Management talks the talk about engagement but firmly manages top down. Management encourages, and in some cases coaches, your answers in the annual survey. Very political, as most large companies are.
