Pros

Generous time off 401k plan Training program no layoffs Bonuses Casual dress Opportunities for many jobs within one company. Free coffee Vanguard is a terrific company if you are an investor.

Cons

Softphone system in place makes crew feel like they are shackled to their desk. Vanguard also has a small goverment in place called the Con. They are supposed to monitor work flow but they have also began to monitor every minute of each crews day. Very Big brotherish. Vanguard going casual was supposed to create a free relaxed atmosphere but that was quickly abolished with the softphone system and the growth of the Cons job to report and account for each and every second of the day. Asking for time off has become more difficult and calling out is very complicated. In short Vanguard has takin the human aspect out of the job and has replaced it with machines.

Pros

Benefits are awesome up to a 14% match on your 401(k), healthcare cheap compared to the competition, if you do an okay job, you can safely retire here, no fear of being let go - so lovely place if you just want to retire.

Cons

Career advancement is absent, even though management puts up quite a show in trying to convince employees how lucky they are to even have a job. Some managers in IT have been in their job for eons and are completely ineffective, but they know their job is secure, so we just have to deal with them.

Pros

No more formal business attire required Job security is unparalleled Awesome health benefits Great people to work with at the ground level

Cons

No opportunities for growth, the system is clogged at all levels. When people quit, management is content replacing them with contractors. Special 'rules' exist in the Charlotte IT department above and beyond corporate policies. Local senior management is solely focused on their own progress and is very opaque about career progression. I guess because of the Job scenario elsewhere, management takes employees for granted. You are not measured by what you produce in results, but in how many hours you work in a week - better work at least 45 hours a week on an average if you desire any bonus at all.
